A crop disease is easiest to stop at the point it is hardest to recognise.

Early blight, target spot and septoria all begin as dark spots on the lower leaves of a tomato plant. By the time the difference is obvious from the path, the treatment window has usually closed.

Not every farm is close to an extension officer, and a wrong guess costs a season — or costs money on a spray that was never going to work on a bacterial problem.
