Market price trends (4 July - 24 August 2026)

Agricultural produce prices recorded by Beeroole changed considerably between 4 July and 24 August 2026. While the prices of tomatoes and onions declined during the reporting period, products such as qaji and kamsar became noticeably more expensive. Other vegetables, including cabbage and salad greens, remained comparatively stable.

These changes matter to both farmers and consumers. Farmers can use price trends to make better decisions about harvesting and selling their produce, while buyers and traders can use the information to plan purchases and understand changing market conditions.

Tomatoes Fall in July Before Recovering

Tomato prices experienced one of the most noticeable movements during the period. The price began at approximately SLSH 190,000 on 4 July and declined through most of the month, reaching its lowest level of around SLSH 120,000 on 29-30 July.

The market began to recover in August, with prices generally fluctuating between SLSH 130,000 and SLSH 160,000. Tomatoes closed the reporting period at SLSH 150,000, representing an overall decline of approximately 21% from the price recorded at the beginning of July.

Although the overall change was negative, the August recovery suggests that the decline did not continue throughout the entire period.

Onion Prices Decline Steadily

Onion prices remained relatively stable at between SLSH 100,000 and SLSH 110,000 during most of July. However, a consistent downward trend began in early August.

Prices fell progressively from SLSH 90,000 to SLSH 85,000 and then SLSH 80,000, before reaching approximately SLSH 70,000 by 20 August. This represents an overall decline of about 30%, making onions one of the products with the clearest downward movements in the data.

Cabbage Prices Remain Mostly Stable

Cabbage prices generally remained close to SLSH 45,000 during the reporting period. There were two temporary declines to approximately SLSH 25,000—first on 20 July and again on 26-27 July.

Prices later recovered and remained between SLSH 50,000 and SLSH 55,000 from late July through the middle of August. By the end of the reporting period, cabbage had returned to SLSH 45,000. Despite the brief fluctuations, its starting and closing prices were essentially unchanged.

Green Pepper Records a Modest Increase

Green pepper prices showed a gradual upward movement. Prices ranged from approximately SLSH 10,000 to SLSH 12,000 in early July before increasing to between SLSH 13,000 and SLSH 14,000 during August.

Unlike some of the sharper movements recorded for other products, the increase in green pepper prices occurred gradually across the reporting period.

Chili Shows the Strongest Upward Trend

Chili recorded the clearest and most consistent price increase among the products monitored. Its price rose from approximately SLSH 9,000 in early July to between SLSH 13,000 and SLSH 17,000 during August.

Based on the recorded starting and typical later price levels, the increase was approximately 56%. The data shows a gradual rise rather than a single temporary price jump, indicating sustained upward movement during the period.

Coriander Prices Rise Despite Daily Fluctuations

Coriander prices were more volatile from one day to another, but the overall direction was upward. Prices increased from around SLSH 7,000 in early July to between SLSH 9,000 and SLSH 12,000 during August.

The overall increase was approximately 43%, making Coriander another product that experienced significant price growth during the reporting period.

Spinach Records a Late Decline

Spinach remained stable at approximately SLSH 5,000 for most of July and early August. From the middle of August, however, the price fell to SLSH 4,000 and remained at that level through the end of the period.

This late decline represents a reduction of approximately 20%.

Salad Prices Remain Unchanged

Salad greens were the most stable product in the data. The price remained at approximately SLSH 3,000 throughout almost the entire reporting period, apart from a brief decline to SLSH 2,500 in the middle of August.

The temporary decrease did not develop into a longer downward trend, and the price subsequently returned to its previous level.

What the Trends Show

The market displayed mixed price movements between early July and late August. Tomatoes and onions became less expensive overall, while qaji, kamsar and green pepper recorded increases. Cabbage, koosto and salad greens experienced either limited changes or temporary fluctuations.

For farmers, regularly monitoring these movements can help inform decisions about when to harvest, where to sell and how to plan future production. Buyers and traders can also use updated market information to compare prices and prepare for possible changes in supply and demand.
